Statement from the Ministry of Health

February 1, 2020: As a result of the continued spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus and a new and updated threat assessment by our Ministry of Health, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO); the Government of Grenada will not allow any non-national with a travel history within the last 14 days from mainland China, whether in transit or originating, to enter any local port as of 12:00 a.m. on Sunday 2 nd of February, 2020.

Any national returning to Grenada with similar travel history, will be quarantined for 14 days.

While the Government of Grenada recognizes and commends the tremendous efforts being made by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the WHO, we believe that in light of the accelerated rate of confirmed cases, the decision of some of our fellow CARICOM nations and the need to alleviate the uneasiness of our citizens in Grenada, we must make thisdecision, to prevent the global threat from reaching our borders. As a responsible Government we are guided by both the international suggested protocols and separately by the wishes and concerns of our citizenry. It is in an effort to find the balance between these two guiding principles that we have made this decision.

The travel ban on non-nationals with recent travel history to mainland China and the mandatory quarantine for Grenadians returning home after visiting or transiting through mainland China, will remain in effect until further notice. All travelers are urged to be guided accordingly.
