Condolences on the Passing of Former Boxer Andre ‘The Giant’ Stewart
ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, July 01, 2020: The Ministry of Youth Development, Sports, Culture and the Arts extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and boxing fraternity of former Grenadian Super Heavyweight Boxer Andre Stewart.
Andre Stewart, who is popularly known as “The Giant”, had passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020, in New York in the United States of America (USA).
The former national champion had an impressive career representing Grenada from 1988 to 1995 at the OECS Boxing Championships, the 1995 Pan-American Games in Argentina and a number of tournaments between Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago. After retiring from competition, Stewart made significant contributions towards the continued development and enhancement of Boxing through donations of equipment and training programmes for aspiring Boxers.
His dream was to encourage young Grenadian women to participate and compete in the sport, to further push the overall development of the sport in Grenada and to open a boxing gym in the United States of America.
May the memories of Andre 'The Giant' Stewart bring comfort and joy to his family and friends. The Ministry wishes to encourage everyone in the boxing fraternity including the Boxing Association of Grenada to continue his work towards the development of boxing among young men and women.
