Ministry extends condolences on the passing of Netball Stalwart, Mrs. Margaret Dowe
ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, August 28, 2020: The Ministry of Youth Development, Sports, Culture and the Arts mourns the loss of netball stalwart Mrs. Margaret Dowe, who passed away on Wednesday, 26 August, 2020.
Mrs. Dowe has left an indelible impression on the sports community, particularly in the sport of netball. After graduating from school, she held a long and productive career in the Ministry of Sports – first by becoming a Netball Coach where she impacted the lives of hundreds of young women and girls throughout Grenada and then elevating to the position of Permanent Secretary.
Her passion for the sport pushed her to represent Grenada at the highest level where she served as a National team captain and was also selected for the first-ever West Indies Netball Team.
“Tatts”, as she was affectionately called, left a long lasting imprint in her home community of River Road and neighbouring villages. The majority of her evenings was spent coaching young girls and she formed four (4) netball teams which she named – All Timers, Dodgers, Dazzlers and Rattlers.
She was a founding member of the Queen’s Park Ranger’s Netball Club. In 2009, the club held the inaugural Margaret Dowe Netball Tournament in recognition of her contribution to sports in the community of River Road. The tournament blossomed into an annual event as the forerunner to the Grenada Netball Association’s (GNA) National Tournament.
The Ministry of Youth Development, Sports, Culture and the Arts extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Margaret Dowe and also the netball fraternity. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and hope that her memories will bring you comfort during this time of grief.
May she rest in peace.
